Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have been experiencing severe abdominal pain for about 2 years. I went to the hospital last year and they told me they didn t find anything, afterwards I went to my follow-up visit with the hospital doctor and it was then that he told me I had ulcerative colitis. He did not go into detail or further discuss it and made his visit very short, so I was never fully educated. I always have had what I assume are flare-ups and sometimes they can be pretty bad but for the past 4 or 5 days the pain has been SO severe, Non-Stop, & it has never lasted this long which leads me to wonder if I need medical care at this point. So I was wondering if I should go to the hospital?
Anti-inflammatory drugs are often the first step in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. They include 5-aminosalicylates. Examples of this type of medication include sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), mesalamine (Asacol HD, Delzicol, others), balsalazide (Colazal) and olsalazine (Dipentum).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
