Hello,

A fasting blood sugar level of 99 mg/dL or lower is normal, similarly A Random Glucose Level of 140 or below is normal. As it is clear that your fasting and random level are higher despite using anti diabetic medications. To control your sugar level at this stage, you need to certain things . First of all you have to control your diet, you should have low or no carbs in your diet. Second thing is a regular exercise is important in burning those extra carbs. Lose weight if you are obese.

If your sugar remains high after doing all of these,. You can then change to a higher dose of your medication or you can add another anti diabetic drug. If oral drugs fail to reduce your sugar to normal, then you have to go for insulin. So now what you can do is simply increase your dose and follow up your blood glucose closely.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

I understand your concern and would explain that these sugar levels are not concerning. Adding another 500mg of Metformin at lunch can help reduce further blood sugar levels. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
