Suggest Treatment For Urinary Tract Infection And Dementia
I present an 88 year old male who was given Sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS for a urinary tract infection three days ago. He becomes extremely unstable, both mentally and physically for about three hours after dosage. He has fallen twice and unable to process commands or get upright without being lifted. I am extremely concerned that he may suffer further damage regarding his dementia/alz.

Hi, Go for for urine culture and start antibiotics accordingly. The dementia is not related to urinary tract infection and may be due to something else. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
