Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 89 year old mother had chf a 10 days ago and she is home from the hospital. She had a hard time walking due to a fall last year. she walks with a walker. She is hardly getting any exercise and is weak. The doctor said she had ventrical and heart damage. he said she will have another heart failure. some days she eats better than others and some hardly at all. Is there anything I can do?
the role of ventricle in heart is to pump blood out of heart to the body ..but if ventricle is week then the bloods flow back into l lungs..so the space in lung which is meant for air is occupied by fluid ...this condition is called chf your mother is almost 90 ..morbidity of chf increases as age increses you should have mentioned what is the ejection fraction of her heart ... as of now as she can not ambulate properly medicines are to be given she would be given diuretics like lasix spironolactone(prevent cardiac remodelling improves ventricular pumping) ace inhibitor like ramipril beta blocker like metoprolol
trimetazidine(flavedon mr should be given as it improves ventricular ejection fraction )
dont worry chf can be treated and now we have even LVAD (left ventricular assited device ) so just follow the medicines and lets hope for the best
