Suggest Treatment For Ventricular Tachycardia When On BP Medication
I m a50 yr old male. Heart attack 18 months age. Clot and total blockage. Heart at 30%. I am on medication. Suffering from conscious VT for the last 6months. And have had pace/defibrillator fitted to cheats. My blood pressure is 122/92 at rest. Do I need to get my BP medication changed. I take 185mg Tropolol. Aspirin. 5mg Ramipril. Statin, 3000 mg magnesium. Mag has got down to 0.20 over the last 6 months. Blood test last week it was 0.55.
There are a few things to do that might help. Making sure your magnesium level is normal even with supplements may help. This may mean your supplement dose needs to be increased or the form changed. Magnesium citrate, aspartate, lactate and chloride forms may be better absorbed. Also avoid high dose zinc, as that may interfere with magnesium absorption.
Your cardiologist may also want to add additional heart medications. Adding a calcium channel blocker medication may help if your blood pressure doesn't go too low with one. Diltiazem and verapamil may be some choices. Changing or adjusting the beta-blocker (toprol) could also help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
