Suggest Treatment For Vomiting And Diarrhea While Having Stomach Flu
My son had the stomach flu 2 weeks ago and has vomited a few times since and has had diarrhea also, I took him to his family Dr. on Wednesday and he told me he should get better, but he has not. He is lethargic and won t eat. Im am getting pretty concerned. Should I take him to the ER?
Since your son is still lethargic & emaciated you are suggested to visit ER with him. Get him physically examined, get his vitals checked. He had vomiting & diarrhea. He may need intravenous fluid support to recover faster.
Keeping him at home may make him further weak & dehydrated. Get him Widal, CBC, Urinalysis test done to rule out typhoid, dehydration or any infection. He may need oral or intravenous antibiotics.
In the meantime, you can give him anti-emetics, anti-diarrheals & antacids if needed. Help him stay well hydrated, get him evaluated & treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
