Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my brother has vomitted 4 times today and he won t eat anything and he s sweating a lot but he doesn t have a fever. We re at the children s hospital right now but the wait is 4 hours long. I don t know what to do. He s really sick and he won t eat.
It is possible that he may have a viral illness, this is the most common cause for vomiting and/or diarrhea though bacterial illness can also occur.
Dehydration is the main possible complication. This can be prevented by replacing fluids and electrolytes. The best fluids are pedialyte or another oral rehydration product.
Only small amounts should be used at a time. He should be taken 1 tsp to 1 tbs every 5 minutes for at least an hour. If this is tolerated then the amount can be increased.
Should hold off solid food till at least 4 hours with no symptoms.
When this occurs, he should start small amounts of dry foods first.
I hope this helps
