hi i am Tuhina from (Durgapur)west Bengal. my father is suffering in lung water problem. His age is 52 .The doctor said his one side is normal and another side damage for water ...we want to bring him in kolkata for better treatment. Would you please tell me what can we do now? Which hospital, which doctor & treatment will best for him. I will be very greatful if you give me proper advice
Thanks for your question on HCM. Water in lung is known as pleural effusion. It is actually accumulation of fliid in pleural space (space around lung) not in the lung itself. So this causes compression of lung and hamper its function. At the age of 52 there are many causes for pleural effusion. The common ones are. 1. Infection like TB 2. Cardiac cause 3. Malignancy So better to consult pulmonologist and get done CT Thorax and pleural fluid aspiration. Send pleural fluid for toutine and microscopic examination, ADA (Adenosine Deaminase), cytology and culture. By these reports we can get the diagnosis snd start the treatment accordingly.
