Suggest Treatment For Wax In Ears

Hi, My son had a lot of dark wax in his ear this morning. I clean it with a q-tip. I know I am not supposed to use q-tips, but I did and I regret it now. I was very careful and he never said I hurt him. He gets swimmers ear often in the summer and I treat them with antibiotics. Tonight I noticed fresh blood in his ear. Is this an urgent situation or should I wait to call his pediatrician tomorrow and of course it is News Years Eve. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

thank you for your query....
well clearing earwax with q-tips are very delicate work and very dangerous too....unless the wax is softened, these methods generally dont help...but the procedure can lead to injury to the ear canal and maybe also the ear drum...
you have said that you noticed fresh blood following the procedure and probably it is because of injury to the ear canal...you have not mentioned any complaints of dizziness or hearing loss..so fortunately the ear drum is intact....

anyways for now, you should visit an ENT specialist, he would look inside the ear canal with otoscope and do the needful....

and in the future, dont use q-tips...use some wax softener drops which are available in the market...they soften the wax and mostly the wax comes out on its own...otherwise a simple syringing gives satisfactory results...however that too should be preformed by a doctor only...

hope this was helpful..

regards
