Suggest Treatment For Weak Ankles Along With Pain

About 10 pm I fell when stepping in a hole that I did not see. My right ankle rolled as I have weak ankles but it cracked and crunched before I hit the ground with pain. There is some swelling but i am in severe pain when my foot is not elevated. Trying to move my toes is also very trying and my second toe is worse than the others. I am trying to figure out if it s broken or sprained.

Hi,

This indicates an ankle sprain. Apply ice over there, take analgesic like ibuprofen 3 times daily for 3-5 days. Keep the foot elevated while sleeping, and minimise movement for 2 weeks. Applying an ankle brace will hasten recovery.

If the swelling and pain does not come down by morning, kindly see an orthopedist, as this will need more strict joint immobilisation with cast. You may be asked for an X-ray also in that case.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
