Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Eltroxin

Good day.... I was on eltroxin for nearly 25 years and just stopped the medication about 1 year ago.. I am feeling terrible latley.... Terrible headaches , neck aches ,short of breath and have gone into a state of depression. Not sure if it has to do with the thyroid or on the other I have been through a lot of heartbreak of loosing my darling sister to cancer 2 years ago and her son ( whom was my only family left in South Africa) Should I have my thyroid teasted or should I put this down to my tragic losses...........????

Hello,

I understand your concern and I am sorry for your loss.
The fact that you have been taking Eltroxin means that you have a low functioning thyroid. In hypothyroidism, thyroid hormone replacement through medication is for life and I do not understand why you decided to go off Eltroxin. You are not going through withdrawal symptoms, you are actually experiencing hypothyroidism symptoms. On top of this, you have been grieving, which makes things even worse. So, as a first step I recommend you see your doctor and tell them the reason why you went of your medication, have some tests in order to check your thyroid hormone levels and get a renewed prescription of Eltroxin or an alternative drug.
Unfortunately, hypothyroidism is not something that goes away on its own, so you are going to have to be compliant with your medication.
In order to deal with your grief, I recommend you make life style changes that will make you get a new perspective and will renew your outlook on life. Healthy eating, physical and social activity are things that greatly help to overcome grief.

Wishing you good health and all the best.
