Hi I have thyroid problem , I was under a medication , I use to take 25 mcg of thyronorm , when thyroid levels came to normal, I stopped it . I have put on a lot of weight now , I see swelling in my throat , irregular periods, should continue my tablets again?
Hypothyroidism is due to deficiency of secretion of thyroid hormone from thyroid gland. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroiditis in which there is a chronic inflammation of thyroid gland. Levothyroxine (Thyronorm) is the treatment of choice for hypothyroidism. Serum TSH should be measured to monitor for adequate replacement. You need to take levothyroxine for life-long. Any interruption in treatment will cause symptoms of hypothyroidism. As you had been taking Thyronorm since a long time and you have now stopped it. So your disease has aggravated. Mentioned problem are symptoms of hypothyroidism. Advice 1. Immediately start Thyronorm 2. Investigations – serum TSH, T4, lipid profile, and blood Hb% 3. After getting result of above mentioned laboratory report, visit any endocrine specialist of your local area. Dose of levothyroxine might have to be adjusted as per serum TSH level Thanks!!
