I have four metal plates and hundreds of screws in my left forearm. I have broken the same arm twice, each time resulting in two plates being put into my arm. The last two plates were put in my arm about five years ago. About six months ago, I began to notice discomfort in my left wrist and hand. As time has progressed, this slight discomfort has escalated into full blown pain. When typing papers, my left wrist and hand become moderately painful within minutes, and the pain only escalates as I continue to type. I must type though, as I am a senior at IU. When I work out, the pain in my wrist becomes intense, and it feels as if my middle finger is being stabbed with needles and forcefully pulled away from the socket. When I wake up in the morning, my wrist and hand area are constantly in moderate pain (my left elbow is often stiff too, but not painful like my wrist and hand). I take Tylenol (the max 3000mgs a day) and ibuprofen when I wake up and throughout the day, but lately they do nearly nothing to reduce the pain. I have also tried icing my wrist (especially after I work out, type, or skateboard). This problem is making my daily life increasingly difficult. What should I do?
