Suggest Treatment For Yeast Infection During Early Pregnancy
5 weeks pregnant currently. I was suffering from some side pain on my sides when I was sleeping, they only lasted a few seconds and went away. I was given some antibiotics from my.Doctor after bacteria was found in my urine and once I started taking the antibitoics I didnt seem to notice the pain, only occasional mild cramping. So because of taking antibiotics I have developed a yeast infection. I just saw a doctor (my own doctor was out of town) and he said I could take an over the counter cream or suppository treatment like canestan (preferably a 3 day treatment) but told me taking this could be a risk for a miscarriage and the safest thing was to just wait and see if it self clears. In a perfect world waiting is fine but yeast infections are uncomfortable but I also do not want to harm my baby. Especially since I had the mild cramping and they are monitoring my hcg levels to make sure they are climbing (only had one so cannot yet see the progression) and my ultrasound seemed fine (gestational sac visible in uterus just too soon to see anything else).I would appreciate a second opinion on if taking an over the counter treatment for yeast infection will truly harm myself or my baby and if it will increase risk for a miscarriage. I am quite healthy, don t take medication, don t smoke rarely drink, only maybe a little overweight. Thank you for your help!
Clotrimazole cream during pregnancy is safe. It is applied locally and the absorption is minimal. So you can use it without any worries. I also suggest to maintain good hygiene, use cotton underwear and loose clothing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
