Suggest Treatment Infection On Toe

My husband has an infection in his left foot which was being treated with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim tablets 800/160mg. It appeared to have cleared up and medication finished when it came back. Between his big toe and next toe it is filling up and oozing. My husband is a diabetic so he does not heal well. He couldn t get into the VA today nor tomorrow so I was wondering if my amoxicillin 875mg tabs would help him til he can be seen by his DR.

Hello
Welcome to HCM
Thanks for posting your query.I understand your concerns.

As your husband is a diabetic patient, his wound healing gets delayed due to decreased due to various factors like impaired microvascular circulation, which limits the access of phagocytic cells to the infected area and results in a poor concentration of antibiotics in the infected tissue.

You can give him amoxcyllin capsulesfor 7 days along with the regular dressing of wound. You should keep the wound dry and clean.

Hope you are happy with the answer.

Thank you
