began experiencing double vision a week ago, looking straight ahead, items are side by side, looking to the left brings things into focus, to the right items on left are above items on the right I m a 70 year old male, do not drink smoke cigars office work

Double vision ( diplopia) could be serious especially it is of sudden onset. The causes are variable, and it could range from medical ( eg: stroke) to surgical ( anuerysm)problem. I would suggest you to seek treatment immediately and do not wait.
