Suggest Treatment Options For Sunburn Lesions On Scalp

My friend shaved his head, then got a severe sunburn. His head is now swollen and leaking a clear fluid. When he wears a hat the swelling goes down into the sides of his face. He has been taking Tylenol and applying aloe gel as well as icing it for the swelling. Is there any better treatment? I read that leakage is normal and one post said not to apply any creams. He does not have insurance so going to the doctor is not an option.

My Dear

Welcome to Healthcaremagic!

I have reviewed your details. The best results for sunburn treatment can be got with following measures. Please reassure your friend that soon he will be out of the discomfort.

1 Prevent further sun exposure

2 wear protective covering like a hat or cap to prevent exposure

3 Mild steroidal preparations in combination with an antibiotic in the same formulation applied twice a day after cold compression will work quite fast in such cases.

4 Anti allergic in the form of Levocetirizine is likely to relieve itching quite well.

5 Please stop using other preparations as they might interfere with this regime and icing wont help.

6 There is no truth in the belief that creams will not help as creams are just a physical form of medicine while it is the active ingredient ina cream that matters.

I hope you will inform your friend about plan of treatment and he should be well soon again.

Best wishes
