Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an otherwise healthy 67 year old living in India. I have a cholesterol reading of 215. I am on a 2.5 mg rosustatin dosage. Diet vegetarian. Regular exercise of walking for about 1.5 hrs per day. Height and weight 5 4.5 and 58 kgs. Is my cholesterol level something I ought to worry about?
Welcome to HCM, A question such as this cannot be truly answered without looking at all of your risk factors together. I will say that evidence shows a lowered risk of cardiovascular events if total cholesterol is under 180-200mg/dl, LDL is below 70-100. This evidence is solid regardless of other risk factors. Then other risk factors will increase baseline risk such as smoking, overweight, eating saturated fat (which causes the body to make more cholesterol), amount of exercise, level of stress, sleeping habits, genetics all play into overall health risk. I hope this clarifies things for you. Healthy Regards, Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
