I am 61, fit and healthy, have suffered from ringing in one ear for years but 6 weeks ago my other ear has a blocked sensation. Been treated for middle ear infection, any suggestion of that has now long gone, ear specialist has tested me and says my hearing is down in bothe ears but is normal for my age, and cannot do anything about the blocked sensation.
Ear blockage post middle ear infection could be due to chronic effusion, adhesive ottitis media(a condition that lead to sticking of ear drum to inner ear),eustachian tube dysfunction.Tinnitus could be due to age related. An audiometry is usually performed at this stage to know type, amount of hearing loss.At your age myringotomy with grommet is not advisable for ear block as some amount of sensorineural hearing loss will be there.
