I had sinus surgery (FESS, turbinates, deviated septum) done 8 days ago. I'm a healhy 54 yr old female. Stints came out 2 days ago. I am still having to mouth breathe at night, due to the congestion. Is that normal? (using a cool mist humidifier in bedroom) Having some bloody discharge, back of throat; can't blow nose to discharge because it is too sensitive and too congested. Using saline spray frequently during the day. How long should I expect this to continue? And how long before I can taste/smell again? I actually feel worse than before surgery, but expect that that is normal and will improve.
Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic. I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. Yes,it is normal to have nasal congestion and blood stained nasal discharge for a few days after nasal surgery.Complete healing may take around 4 weeks. For nasal congestion you may use Nasal Decongestant like Oxymetazoline and Oral Decongestant like Pseudoephedrine for a few days. Continue Saline Nasal Spray. Avoid cleaning or blowing the nose forcefully.
