Suggest Treatment To Get Rid Of Dryness In The Vagina After Taking Birth Control Pills

Hello! I m currently 19 years old and started taking birth control when i was 18, it lasted for less than a year. I stopped because the pill caused dryness. I ve been off the pill since august and i m still battling with dryness. Is there anything I can do or take to get my natural lubricant back?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Hormone-based birth control pills adds progesterone and/or estrogen to the body, which results in excessive progesterone or estrogen in the uterus and cervix. This may result in various vaginal problems such as vagina dryness, vaginal abrasion with painful intercourse, vaginal infection and orgasmic dysfunctions.
You need to avoid using douches, bubble baths, scented soaps and lotions around the sensitive vaginal area as these products can worsen dryness.
In order to keep the vagina more lubricated, you can use vaginal moisturizers.
During intercourse, you can use a water-based lubricant. Also take your time before having sex to make sure that you are fully relaxed and aroused.
Keep the area under good hygiene.
In case the condition doesn't improve despite of trying these measures, kindly consult Gynecologist and change the mode of contraception which would suit you.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
