I want to lighten the colour of my my lips. My lips are naturally darkish purple, top lip, and dusky to ligth pink, bottom lip. It's a hereditary trait and one that I share with my mother's side of the family. Can I do a treatment to lighten my lips? I have done herbal at-home remedies (honey, milk, lemon, beetroot) with varing sucess but it takes weeks to months to show any improvement, quite effective but I'm not determined enough to do the herbal treatment daily. Please help.
I completely understand your concern and I hope I am able to help you for the same. We can only decrease the pigmentation over the lips to some extent with treatment. Since there is dark pigmentation, I would advice that you use some kind of a lightening agent like kojic acid and vitamin c combination over the scar. This is a simple, harmless lightening agent which can be used for as long the blackish pigmentation is there. Also ,try not to touch the area too much. Use proper sunscreen (spf>26) before going out in the sun so that the lesions doesn't darken any further.
Take a diet rich in vitamin C and antioxidants like Citrus fruits and lots of salads.
Hope it helps Best wishes for a speedy recovery Dr Geetika Paul MD( Dermatology)
