Suggest Treatment To Stop Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding

My periods have come after a long time I have had a period for six weeks but they won't stop my doctor had prescribe norethisterone if I take that will that stop my periods for a long time or short term I don't want my periods to stop I do want to get pregnant in the near future. Thanks.
