Suggest Treatment When Diagnosed With Ankylosing Spondylitis

I was recently diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and, so far, I have been able to use Ibuprofen for pain management. I also take an Omega 369 supplement that contains borage and flax oil. I am wondering if it would be better for me to switch to Aleve (naproxen?) for pain management. What are the different risks and benefits between Advil and Aleve?

Oncologist 's  Response
Hello,

Most people with ankylosing spondylitis test positive for HLA-B27, but so do some people who don't have the condition. A positive test may point to AS but it won't confirm the diagnosis. X-rays sometimes help to confirm the diagnosis, though they generally don't show anything unusual in the early stages.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
