Suggest Treatmentfor Swelling On The Legs And Buttocks Pain While Suffering From Femur Breakage

I broke my right femur in Jan. near the ball of the hip. At surgery a titanium rod was inserted length wise and a shorter one inserted to hold fracture in place. A screws placed lower in leg to keep the longer rod from moving. Still have some swelling in lower leg and lots of pain in the buttocks area. Sometimes feels like I am being stabbed in the butt with a knife. Is this normal? How long will I experience swelling? Have had physical therapy but still have a hard time walking, especially after sitting for awhile. I also have bone on bone arthritis of my knees which complicates the problem.
