Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

The symptom of diabetes is a loss of weight. It is one of the 3 cardinal features of diabetes. Increased appetite and Increased urination are the other two features. You have said you had complications with diabetes. By this information, I am gathering that your sugars have not been well controlled. Therefore I can tell you that the weight loss is continued due to your uncontrolled sugars.

So the first step you can take to control your weight is to check sugars into normal range. This can be done in 3 ways
1. a good diet- the calory intake has to be monitored.
2. regular exercise- this helps burn excess calories.
3. and appropriate medicines- from the query, I am unaware of the medications you are on. Meet the diabetician regularly and dont skip the medicines/insulin. Know the correct way of administering insulin (if on insulin).

As for the normal weight, I need to know your height to answer that question. The ideal body weight depends in 3 factors height, age/activity, and body type.

Checking HbA1C regularly (every 3-6 months) is a good idea.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
(If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
Best of luck.
