Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 41 years old, and have recently gotten off of the pill after 20 years of taking it. I have got of it for the sole purpose of health and reduced risk of stroke. However, I am worried about getting pregnant. Truly, how effective is the pull method? What days can I have safe, carefree sex? I do not want to get pregnant but I also have no interest in getting back on the pill! Thank you.
The pull off method gives about 70 % protection. The days that have less probability of being pregnant are from 16 you end of the cycle but still not 100% sure. I suggest you to use condoms. Also you can use intrauterine device to provide you with needed contraception.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
