Suggest Ways To Loose Weight After Thyroidectomy

Yes Hi my name is Salena and I m on Synthroid 125 mcg because I had a Thyroidectomy due to cancer and I m having a problem getting fluid and weight off. I asked my PCP about Phentermine with my Synthroid and she won t prescribe it so I want to know is there something I can take to help me with fluid retention while I m exercising to lose the extra weight I put on after surgery?

Welcome Salena and thank your for asking on HCM!

I do really understand your concern.

First of all it is very important to know, how long after surgery did you start the treatment with levothyroxine and how many weeks under treatment are you?

Usually it takes 6-8 weeks after starting the treatment with levothyroxine to correct the TSH level. The sign and symptoms you reported correlate with an unde ractive thyroid due to the low dose of the levothyroxine. So i would recommend to check the TSH 6 weeks after starting the treatment and if it is within the expected ranges, than try to find other causes for weight gain.

Hope the information will help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
