Suggest Ways To Manage The Side Effects Of Prednisone

I heard that prednisone has serious side effects related to bones, I am not a big medicine taker, but due to bronchitis, once in a while, doctor prescribed me prednisone 10 mg. How bad are the side effects? I am 41 years old. Please explain. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Steroid can lead to bone side effects that is right like osteoporosis. But this side effect occurs on long term steroid usage like it is used for two to three months. As your bronchitis presentation might be severe and congestion is more, you might be prescribed steroid for inflammation relief. In bronchitis it is usually prescribed for short duration. Consult physician for examination and discuss regarding duration of treatment with oral steroid.

Hope your concern solved. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
