Suggest Ways To Quit Alchohol

My fiancée is alcohol addict. He wants to quit but he is not able to cope with the withdrawal symptoms. It’s the third day since he has stopped drinking. I would like to know the procedure which we should follow. He is a heavy drinker is it fine to limit his drinking to weekends or should we stop all at once? Modina

Hello,

Since your fiancée is more dependent on alcohol he may start to experience withdrawal symptoms when he significantly cuts back on alcohol or stops drinking. The withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, fatigue, headache, mood changes, insomnia, sweating, etc., may occur. Sometimes the symptoms may get unbearable.

So he is suggested to get connected to a detox center or should consult a local Physician who can urgently take care of the withdrawal symptoms so that he is comfortable and quits taking alcohol successfully. It is better to taper alcohol intake gradually so that the withdrawal symptoms are not severe.

He should keep nonalcoholic beverages on hand for himself and others. You can help him choose the beverage of choice. You can infusing plain with chopped fruits or herbs for a change, adding cinnamon sticks or spices to tea, or hot chocolate may serve the purpose when he craves for alcohol.

You can also serve him lemonade with water. Deep breathing exercises are helpful to calm down stress or anxiety. Help him keep hos attention diverted, plan outdoor trips, picnics, meet new people, make new friends, go hiking, listen to good music, do regular exercises, eat healthy food. Watching good movies and switching to healthy lifestyle are helpful.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
