Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I feel like I have depression. I ve taken many online tests that say I do. I would really like to see a doctor but if I asked my mother to take me to one, she would ask why. I don t feel comfortable telling her why because she ll probably say you ll feel better later or everyone gets a bit sad sometimes or even it s not serious enough that you should go to a doctor . I don t know what to do, can I have some help?
I don't know your age or symptoms, but if you feel you have persistent depression, then it is time to go in to be seen. Depression is not uncommon, and nowadays we have good medicine and counseling to help.
Suggestions for how to talk with your mother: Mom, this is difficult for me to discuss but I've been feeling depressed for some time, and it's more than just feeling a little down sometimes. I would like to go to a doctor or a psychologist (or both) for help. It isn't because of anything you are doing wrong. You may not be aware of how badly I have been feeling because I mostly keep it inside. Could you please take me to one?
If you feel uncomfortable saying this, you could write it down and give it to her. Go ahead and take the first step and tell your mom.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
