Suggest Ways To Stop Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Hello. I am on birth control and I started my period two days before the peach pills ... I have been in so much pain during my period even a week before that. I am having a lot of bleeding and blood clots bigger then a quarter come out ever since I started. Note that today is a week since I started and looks like I won t be stoping anytime soon. Is this some thing I should be concerned about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Heavy bleeding while on birth control pills should always be investigated.Treatment will depend on the underlying cause.Possible causes may include:
-Side effects of pills
-Hormonal/ovarian imbalances
-Pelvic masses(fibroids, cancer, cyst...)
-PID/STIs
-Pregnacy/related complications as pills not 100% effctive
I will suggest you see your Gynecologist for evaluation.A pelvic ultrasound and a PID/STI work-up will be very useful in your evaluation. If need be, hormonal work may be requested.Your treatment will depend on underlying cause
Hope this will help
Best regards
