I just quit flecainide after being on it for 20 years. It wasn t keeping me in a normal rhythm so opted for an ablation. Cut dosage to 50 mg 2xs daily and now quit all dosages 1 wk ago. So wanting to be off it without the medication. How long for it to totally Be out of my system?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The half-life of a medication is the time it takes for the amount of medication in the body to decrease to half. It takes 3 to 5 half-lives for a medication to be mostly eliminated.

The half-life of flecainide is 12 to 27 hours, this means that it can take 36 to 135 hours (approx 5 1/2 days) for it to be mostly eliminated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
