Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been on hydromorphine for almost a year, I m trying to get off of it but I feel strange sometimes. Im only taking 1/2 of a pill in the morning and another half at night. How long does this feeling last it s driving me nuts I try to think of other things to keep my mind off of the med. What can I do to help to get off a feel better?
Generally, withdrawing from opioids is recommended to be done under the supervision of a trained doctor in drug addiction. It is not safe to do it yourself and it is not safe to just abruptly stop it. There may be severe side effects if withdrawal is not done in the right way.
I would recommend you to talk to your local medical provider and discuss with him the fact that you would like to quit taking hydromorphone. The local provider should be able to refer you to services or doctors that have experience in assisting patients withdrawing from drugs.
These specially trained doctors will give the right instructions on the gradual dose decrease and will monitor your symptoms and treat them as needed.
I hope I have answered your query and have been helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
