Hi Dr.just found out my 23 year old daughter is addicted to stilpanes. She consumes 40 to fifty per day. What can i do to help her to stop. She uses her husband to buy. If ue doesnt then she swears him and threatens to leave. I am so scared cos she has a one year old baby girl. She says she started about 9 months ago. She wants to stop but cant deal with the nausea and vomitting. How can i help her and what can she use to ease the vomiting and nausea so that she can stop needing the pills
It's quite serious. The acetaminophen in it can be fatal at the level of about 10 at a time. The liver can neutralize the toxicity but too much overwhelms the liver and it's hard to say if 40 a day won't be fatal. The codeine in ONE is quite small. But that amount is likely to produce addiction, withdrawal if stopped and dependence. Meprobamate isn't even around in the US anymore. but it is a complicated sedative that interacts with the codeine. That amount is quite a serious amount and both taking that amount and stopping it suddenly could be fatal. Basically, someone who takes a large amount of both an opiate and a sedative daily is set up for a fatal overdose, but stopping them suddenly can cause fatal seizures and taking them off of it requires inpatient monitoring.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
