Suggest Ways To Wean Off Temazepam

I have been taking Temazepam 30mg. Tapered down to 15mg. Now I want to taper completely off the medication but don t really like the side effects. My problem is the 30mg and the 15mg are covered on my insurance and cost me $6.00 a month. The 7.5 is not covered and costs $235.00 a month. I am afraid to just stop taking the medication as I have read it can cause seizures.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Drugs like Temazepam can have serious side effects when suddenly withdrawn, because they direct effect your brain. They should always be started and tapered off (slowly decreasibg dose and then stopping) Under direct supervision of a doctor. Its best that you visit your doctor and ask him to supervise.
The problem of dose can be easily tackled by breaking the drug into half, there are plenty of pill cutters available in the market that can precisely cut it in half, and then you can take half yhe medicine daily.
So ask your doctor to prescribe accordingly, so that it is covered by insurance.
Regards
