Suggest Ways To Wean Off Tramadol

My mother is 77 years old with very bad arthritis. Several fingers are locked in place & she has a great deal of pain. She takes two 50 mg Tramadol three times a day and just found out they are addictive. Her doctor gave her the rapid detox schedule & she is having terrible side affects. She needs a slow taper schedule & her idiot doctor won t change it. Can you give us a slow taper off schedule?

Hello,

Weaning off Tramadol causes side effects or withdrawal symptoms. Before weaning you should either get connected to a doctor or take the help of detox centers.

Withdrawal symptoms should be treated at the earliest to keep the patient comfortable & aid successful withdrawal.

Tapering off the medication will depend upon the duration for which the medication might have been taken.

If she has been taking the medication for a short period of time than 10% tapering per day is recommended. But if the medication has been used for a longer period of time than 10% tapering weekly should be done.

The withdrawal symptoms will need immediate treatment or medical aid. Take the help of doctor or Detox centers.

Since she is suffering from arthritis, encourage her to do exercises. The more exercises the more will she find relieve though at first she may find it very difficult.

Let her start with knitting for fingers & walking regularly. Get her treated properly for arthritis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
