Suggest Ways To Wean Off Tylenol

I have been legally taking Tylenol 3 for about 6 - 9 months; I forget which; I am not taking large doses and have never taken even the maximum dose prescribed; but have been taking 2 - 3 pills a day for the last 6 - 9 months dealing with extreme hemmoroids and now the after effects of hemmroidectomy; obviously I want to get off the pills when my need for pain killers stops in a couple of weeks; I am 3 weeks after surgery; can I just taper off myself? etc? this is not a heavy dosage but I have been on it for some months ; what do you recommend?

Hi,

Tylenol is not something that causes addiction / withdrawal syndrome. As it is already 3 weeks after surgery, you can just stop it all of a sudden if there is no pain anymore. No need of tapering. Also, take care to include a lot of fibres (fruits, green leafy vegetable, oats) and drink enough fluids to ensure soft stools and avoiding recurrence of hemorrhoids.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
