Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been using crystal meth daily for a month. Before this it was every six months. I m only sleeping 15 hours a week or so. No matter how much knowledge I have of the toxic effect from this drug. I run to my dealer to get another fix. I feel hopeless that I can t quit?
If you were my patient, I would like to first congratulate you that you have taken the step which is identifying and acknowledging that you have a problem. I understand that you feel hopeless but your commitment to quitting is going to be equally important. Substance abuse requires multi-dimensional approach. You alone may find this journey difficult.
As your physician, I would recommend you enrol in a rehabilitation program which consists both medication and counselling which have proven to yield good results. It is important to modify yourself, your family and your environment which will be the focus of behavioural therapy. Also, to tackle the craving for crystal meth you may be substituted with another mild medication for the duration of rehabilitation. It will take time but I have seen many of my patients get their life back and lead a happy life. Stay committed and i am sure you will overcome this problem.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Tejas, General & Family Physician
