Suggest Whether I Am In Menopause Or It Is Over

my gyno says I am menopausal but I never stopped my period for more than a month or so here and there- I am 56-my last regular period was in 2004. i am having some heavy bleeds-vagsonogram showed very thick endrometrium & irregular pap smear. she referred me to gyno-oncologist-guess good chance of cancer. mentioned D & C -if no cancer will that fix my bleeding-will i still need hysto?- she said I was "menopausal"- from blood tests does that mean I AM thru and at menopause or still going thru it? thanks
