Swelling, Blister Around Cuticle, Blood Under Nail. Fingernail Got Crushed In Door. Should I Meet Doctor?
Hello, my son crushed his middle fingernail in a door. We went to the doctor where they said it wasn't broken (no xray though) but since then it has swollen and looks like a blister around his cuticle in addition to the blood that has collected under his nail. It's not bothering him very much and I'm wondering if I should make an ER trip tonight to have it drained or if it could wait until tomorrow am when I can visit my PCP. Thanks!

Your child has probably developed haematoma underneath nail due to traumatic injury. If the haematoma covers more than 25 percent of nail surface, it needs to be drained. This can be done by making a small hole in nail plate. If the area involved is less,simple intake of oral antiinflammatory analgesic like Brufen with topical application of antibiotic cream would help.
