Swellling In The Salivary Gland After Tonsillectomy

I ve been gone through a tonsillectomy on 11th April and i m recovering fast,but 3 days before i come across with the swelling in my salivary glands and the surrounding area of my ear towards my cheeks. Also today i m sufferring from a temperatured arround 100. I ve also applied icepad in that area and I m taking antibiotics (Clid-300, FHB12, and LIMCEE)prescribed by my Dr. After i ve shown him the swelling but there is no sign of improvement . Kindly suggest what to do?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
I have noticed that you have developed salivary gland swelling ( The site you mentioned, I think is Parotid) approx 12 days after tonsillectomy. With the history you have given, i can assume it to be parotitis. The medicine you are taking is OK, but in addition i always prefer an ORAL gurgle particularly "povidone iodine". Just after tonsillectomy your doctor might have been prescribed "Hydrogen Peroxide" gurgle to you, as many surgeon prefers, which helps a lot.
In any resistant cases, a throat swab & culture will help to determine what antibiotics will be correct for you although there is maximum chances that it will come sterile as you are already on antibiotic.
Anyway, strictly maintain an Oral hygiene, that will help you to improve fast. I would also advise an multivitamin (Limcee is Vit C).

its been 3 days post occurrence of the swelling and further review by your treating physician with the antibiotic prescribed should take care of the infection.
nature take its own sweet time to heal.
