Swollen Glands Under Jaw, Sore Throat, Boil On Neck Burst Followed By Swollen Node 2 Months Back. Advice?
Hi. I have had swollen glands under my jaw for about 4 weeks now. I believe they are salivary glands and not lymph nodes but im not an expert. Not sure if it's related but about 8 weeks ago approx I had a boil on my neck which burst followed by a swollen node just below the boil. Then a sore throat a week later the above started. Can you help?
Swelling in the neck region can be due to salivary gland enlargement, thyroid, lymph node enlargement, soft tissue swelling, or bony swelling. The preceding boil can lead to an enlarged lymph node. An ultrasound of the neck is required to know the origin of the swelling. Further an aspiration cytology of the swelling is required. This test samples the cells from the swelling and stained. The origin of the swelling, the character of the lesion will be determined by this investigation. The further management of the swelling will be decided by the result of these investigations.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
