Swollen Thumb With Soreness After An Injury. Silver Piece Removed From The Wound. Need To Go To The Doctor?

I cut my finger on some plastic the other day. Yesterday I noticed I had a small sliver of the plastic sticking out of the thumb. I removed it, and last night my entire thumb swelled up and is very red and sore. This morning it is the same, and i can barely bend my thumb. What should I do?

Welcome to HCM.

Based on your description that the thumb is red and sore, It seems there is an infection going on. I would suggest review by Family Physician or Surgeon and commence antibiotics to control the infection.

Meanwhile, you can take Paracetamol as pain-relief medication.

Hope things get better soon.
