If this is your first attack of tonsillitis (assuming that you also may have sore throat, pain on swallowing, fever) , all you need is a course of antibiotics, painkillers and a good gargle. If the infection is mild and there is no fever, you may avoid antibiotics. If your lack of medical insurance prevents you from seeing a doctor, avoid cold, spicy and sour food. Do saline gargles regularly. Try home remedies like honey and ginger (during the day to soothe the throat) and then turmeric in hot milk (last thing in the night before going to sleep). If your tonsillitis becomes recurrent or severe, you will have no choice but to seek medical attention.

tonsil can be treated by home remedy.like ginger or honey and turmeric...if tonsillitis not cure by home remedy then it could be Bactria infection or other..but most of infection are bacterial,,,it can be treated by antibiotic like azithromycin ,levofloxacin as well as anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen,..and anti-allrgic drug like levocetrazine.

ENT Specialist Dr. Ravinder Sharma's  Response
Dear Sir Hello I am Dr Sharma ENT surgeon. On the basis of information provided it appears that you are having infection of tonsild . It could be a viral infection or a bacterial infection. It u have pain in throat you can take saline gargles and and analgesic antiinflammatory drug. If the problem increses and u have fever too then u may need a antibiotic in addition. Amoxycillin works well in tonsil infection but I would advise you for a ENT consultation before starting antibiotics. I hope this answers your concern with regards Ravinder SHarma
