Taking Effexor, Heart Rate While Cycling. What To Do ?
my bp is 127 over 91. I'm 47 pretty fit. im 6' and 185lbs. I'm taking effexor for about 3months.it seems like this has raised my bp. also my heart rate when I'm cycling is crazy high under moderate effort (175) and 81 this morning before i even got on my bike. my doc. says I'm just a bit higher than average, however i am above average in fitness. it is affecting my performance on my bike. I'm discouraged

effexor / venlafaxine is known to raise blood pressure initially , hence you should monitor it frequently but most of the time it returns to baseline on continuing medication.you systolic BP should increase when you are exercizing or cycling and it is normal response of heart to exercise. similarlt it can also raise during anxiety/stress /excitibility consider these things first before jumping to any conclusion.
if you have BP is morethan or equal to 140/90 mmHg on two occsion you need to be alert and should start dirt and life style modification. at the end of three months if your BP is not normal then you should start medication.
A doctor will decide which anti-hypertensive is most suited for you . if at all you require it
