Taking Thyroxin. Should I Take It For The Rest Of My Life?
Hi, Thank you for this service and your dedication to healing.
I have recently started taking Thiroxin 5 mg. How sate is this synthetic? If I continue to take Thiroxin, will it cause my body to stop producing its own Thiroxin? Must I take it for the rest of my life? In a disaster situation where I would not be able to get Thiroxin, what would the out come be?
First and foremost it is unlikely you are taking Thyroxine in dose of 5 mg..you dose must be in micrograms, something like 50 microgram or so..
The very reason you are prescribed Thyroxine is because you donot have enough thyroid hormone production in your body. Giving thyroid hormone from outside would not reduce the thyroid production in your body, infact it would supplement the inadequate production of thyroid hormone in your body.
I would suggest you to continue the Thyroxine which is prescribed .
With warm regards Dr. Om Lakhani
