Teenager. Delayed Periods. History Of Stress In School, On Folic Acid For Thalassemia, Had Protected Sex. Reason For Concern?

hi, im 17 and 9 days late for my period. i'm very concerned. next week i'm writing exams at school so perhaps stress is causing a change in my cycle. Also two weeks ago, my doctor prescribed folic acid for my thalassemia, could that have anything to do with being late? The day after my last period, i had sexual intercourse for the first time, with protection. Is there reason for concern?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on health care magic.
Since sexual intercourse was with protection and on safe day, less likely you are pregnant.
Stress due to exams is the reason for delay in your periods.
You can expect your periods within a week.
There is no need to worry.
Hope this helps.
regards,
Dr Nilofer

hello,
thank you for using health care magic,
well since you had intercourse on 5th or 6th day of your cycle that too protected chances are very less that you are pregnant..
folic acid has no effect on menstrual cycle..
your period are late most likely because of stress of exam.. it is very common ..
i will suggest you to wait for few days and still if you dont get periods then consult gynecologist..
take care..
Dr.Nehal..
