Hi i was wondering if i was pregnant or experiencing premenstrual symptoms. I'm a 16 year old and i had unprotected sex last week. Yesterday i began to experience swollen breasts, light cramping on the left side of my stomach and uterus and insomnia as well as heat flashes. I will be expecting my period in about a week. I am completely confused on how my body is reacting

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I understand your heightened fears about pregnancy.. All unprotected sex can lead to pregnancy. The symptoms you have described are not specific for pregnancy and can occur in so many other conditions not related to pregnancy.

My advice is that you patiently wait for the date your menses are expected to show up. if you miss you period, then you can do a quick pregnancy test to find out why.

If you should find out that you are not pregnant, then adopting and practicing a method of contraception is something to consider. Also remember that unprotected sex exposes you also to STDs. So always consider protecting yourself during intercourse if you are not planning on getting pregnant.

hello,
thank you for using health care magic,
well wait for your periods because in teen age growth of breast is normal..
if you had unprotected sex in your fertile period that is 12 th to 18th day if your cycle is of 28 to 30 days.. then there are chances of pregnancy.. you can take i pill if it is not more then 72 hours of unprotected sex..
if its already more than 72 hours then wait for your periods.. if you dont get your periods then take home pregnancy test after week.. but its result are not very reliable as it can give false negative result in early stage..
you can go for more confirmatory test like beta hcg level or ultrasound..
in future practice safe sex.. use condom or o.c.pills..if you fail to use these use i pill within 24 to 72 hours..
