Temporary Filling Came Out. Filled It Again But Is Not Comfortable. Advice?

I had a deep cavity drilled out today. Almost required a root canal but dentist saved the tooth . A mold was taken and a temporary filling was applies. Within the first hour, a part loosened and i returned to the office for a fix. Several hours later the whole ing came out...appeared to even be some soft cotton/ gauze material in there. Rinsed with hydrogen peroxide mixture and got temporary filling from the local drug store. It s not painful...but not comfortable either. Was the temp filling a bad choice for the next couple of days until i can get to the office again?

HELLO AND WELCOME,
aS per the details provided, the decay was too deep which thereby resists the filling to fit on the teeth.
If pulp is invoved ,root canal treatment is the treatment of choice.
Temporary filling is not a permanent solution.
Meanwhile avoid biting hard/solid foods.
In the procedure of root canal treatment, tooth is saved, the only difference is entire pulp is removed which is infected.
Take complete course of antibiotic cover.
Always maintain good oral hygiene.

take care.

Dentist Dr. Qazi Ammara's  Response
hi,
thanks for asking the query,
in cases of deep cavity with pulp involement root canal is treatment , as you said your cavity is deep and dentist is trying to save the tooth , it will require a medicament placement in the cavity which will encourage secondary dentine formation , this will probably require time upto six weeks . after this he will evaluate condition of your teeth and continue with permanent restoration if it ts not painful .
if it is not comfortable you can concern your dentist , meanwhile you can avoid eating hard stuffs forceful brushing from that side.
regards.

Dentist Dr. Neha Gupta's  Response
Hello,
I am Dr.Neha Gupta (dentist) and am glad to address to your query here.
do not let a tooth go more than a couple days without a temporary to cover it, as you may be risking tooth movement, micro leakage and possible tooth breakage.
If you have any rough or sharp edges which are cutting your cheek or tongue and you are unable to get to our office, you can use orthodontic wax to cover it. Do not smooth or alter a sharp tooth which your dentist has already shaped for a final restoration.
Finally, do not eat in the area! This could result in tooth fracture and tooth loss! Additionally, eating could result in food impaction and a gum tissue infection.
Gently rinse your mouth with warm water.
Apply a small amount of clove oil with a cotton swab to the tooth to help sooth the pain and reduce sensitivity
Take care and please keep me informed of your progress at healthcaremagic through my profile directly.
